For...

My brother, Stan, who is also a family man by virtue of his deep regard for our people and heritage.

Susan, who has enabled me to realize most of the sentiments expressed in Family Man, (maybe someday - the cabin in the woods).

Sarah, David, Tim and John, who gave me the gift of fatherhood. Sandy, the gift of father-in-law-hood.

My mother and sisters, with whom a large part of this life was shared - for which I am grateful.

Extended family, in-laws, whom I appreciate far more than I have expressed.

You and I

I'm filled with good feelings of warmth and well-being
As we savor this time, you and I
It's been many years since we cast off our fears
And promised each other our lives

And we have weathered some hard times
With love's strong tethers as the ties that bind
Doubting it never that our Maker's design
Brought us together and keeps us - you and I

Every good gift is from the Father who lives
In the light of unfading day
And all we've been given is received by the living
Of the Giver's wise and true ways

And we have weathered some hard times...

The Creator of all made marriage a waltz
Celebrating the Son and His Bride
He's given us to be dance partners 'til we
Will feast and dance at His side

And we are rehearsing for a glorious time
Learning to love and kindling the fire
Doubting it never that our Maker's design
Brought us together and keeps us - you and I

Holiday

We spend our lives doing things we don't like
Just to stay alive
And though we really love each other
It's so hard to find the time
To take a holiday
Take some time to get away
(away, away)

You're so busy with your world
I'm so busy with mine
Hard to believe we live for each other
That's what we said at one time
We need to take a holiday
We need to find a chance to make
Our two worlds become one
But our time just runs away
(away, away)

When our lives are almost over
We may have everything we need
But will we still have each other
Or find we're strangers suddenly?
Why don't we take a holiday?
Find the time and make a way
Get acquainted you and I
Before we find that it's too late
(too late, too late)

That's the Power, That's the Love

Heal the sick, set the captive free
That's the power of Jesus!
Get the lame a'dancin', cause the silent one to speak
That's the love of Jesus!

Do you want this power in your life?
That's the power of Jesus!
Do you want this love in your life?
That's the love of Jesus!

Take away the bitterness, bring peace and harmony
That's the power of Jesus!
Bring home the wayward son, reunite the family
That's the love of Jesus!

Do you want...

That's the power, that's the love...
His power brought the worlds about
His love is always reaching out

Laying down his life to conquer death and sin
That's the power of Jesus!
Building me a mansion so that I can live with Him
That's the love of Jesus!

Yes, I want...

Thanksgiving Hymn

Heavenly Father, we're filled with gratitude
For Thy tender mercies, for our daily food
For the strength to accomplish the tasks Thou bid'st us heed
For home and family, we raise our thanks to Thee

We thank Thee that our journey has often times been blessed
By those who walk beside us, and share both toil and rest
As priests to one another, it is our desire
To live our thanks with love that Christ Thy Son inspires

We thank thee for the ones Thou hast joined in sacred bond
They are gifts from Thee and our hearts are rightly fond
Though the circle grows larger, its center still is Thee
Thou, the Cornerstone of this our family

We thank Thee for our parents who taught at tender age
To respect Thy greatness, to seek Thy loving face
To the children Thou hast given we promise we will teach
That same sacred trust of loyalty to Thee

Family Man

Lord, let me live the life that You send
Let it be from Your heart, let it be from Your hands
With God as my Father, Jesus as my friend
Lord, let me be a family man!

Lord, let me build for the family You send
Let me make them a home, let me build it with my hands
Make it a place where You nurture and defend
Lord, let me be a family man!

Lord, let me marry the woman that You send
Let the love grow strong that we hold in our hands
May our marriage be a garden we carefully tend
Lord, let me be a family man!

Lord, let me father the children that You send
With a wise, tender heart and strong gentle hands
Teach me to chasten, teach me to mend
Lord, let me be a family man!

Lord, make us wise to use all You send
With kind, humble hearts and willing, helpful hands
May we love each well through the time You lend
And, thank you for making me a family man!

Treasures

Treasures
Laid up for us in heaven
We can never be the same
Knowing they are waiting there
Loved ones
We long to see again
And we know that we will
For they are in God's care

Our God
Will wipe our tears away
He'll give the strength to live
His comfort will abound
Our hearts
Are where our treasures lay
So who can blame us if
Our thoughts are heaven-bound?

Treasures
Laid up for us in heaven
We can never be the same
Knowing they are waiting there
Loved ones
We long to see again
And we know that we will
For they are in God's care

Psalm 25

To Thee, O Lord, I lift up my soul
O my God, in Thee I trust.
Do not let me be ashamed
Don't let my enemies rejoice.
None of those who wait for Thee
Will be disappointed.
But those who deal treacherously
Will be ashamed.
Make me to know Thy ways, O Lord;
Teach me Thy paths.
Lead me in Thy truth and teach me.
For Thou art the God of my salvation
For Thee I wait all the day.
Remember Thy compassionate loving kindness.

Don't remember the sins of my youth,
Or my transgressions.
In loving kindness remember me
For Thy goodness sake.
Good and upright is The Lord
He instructs sinners in the way
He leads the afflicted in justice
And teaches the humble His ways.
All of the paths of the Lord are truth
To those who keep His law.
For Thy name's sake, O Lord,
Pardon my sin for it is great.

Who is the man who fears the Lord?
He will instruct him how to choose.
His soul will abide in prosperity
And his children will inherit the land.
The secret of the Lord is for those who fear Him;.
And He will make them know His covenant.
My eyes are continually toward the Lord
For he will pull my feet out of the net.
Turn to me and be gracious to me
For I am lonely and afflicted.
Relieve the troubles of my heart
Bring me out of my distress.
Look at my affliction and trouble
And forgive my sins.
Guard my soul and deliver me
For I wait for Thee.

Listening From Afar

Someday I need to make my peace with my hometown
Convince myself I'm not a stranger now
Before my kids are grown and all the old folks gone
Before I find I can't go home to my hometown

I can't blame them if they never knew me
Can't accuse them for being only who they are
Can't say I know why their words still cut right through me
When I've only been listening from afar

I hope the pain can be erased from my hometown
I know there's lots of good that I should remember now
But the dreams that seemed were all I had to call my own
Went to someone else who was more at home in my hometown

I can't blame them if they never knew me
Can't accuse them for being only who they are
Can't say I know why their words still cut right through me
When I've only been listening from afar

Someday I need to make my peace with my hometown
Convince myself I'm not a stranger now
Before my kids are grown and all the old folks gone
Before I find I can't go home to my hometown

For the Children

This is for all the children
May your days be filled with delight
May you live in a world of love
May you be warm at night

You have so much to live and learn
So many things to go through
Just remember wherever you are
Your heavenly Father loves you

This is for all the children
May your eyes be quick to see
That true joy does not come from things
But from the hearts of you and me

You were born in a world of wonders
There's beauty all around you
Let love for life take you far
Don't let evil surround you

As you grow you will find many things
That are not as they should be
But the right will always prevail
If you will pray and believe

This is for all the children
May your days be filled with delight
May you live in a world of love
May you be warm at night

Work Song

I will bless You, oh my Lord
With the fruit of my hands
And the work that I do
Will be done as unto You

A sacrifice, oh Lord
Of my time and of my self
You have given me this skill
To accomplish Your will

I will serve You
I will praise You
I will bless You, Lord
With my work

There are those who trust in me
To supply their daily needs
What a joy it is, oh Lord
To be a servant unto these

I will serve You...

Contentment and joy
Will go with me to my job
As I bless the ones I'm working for
You bless me even more

I will serve You...
